Tout comme Agde, Meze fut fondée par les Phocéens au VIe siècle av. J.-C.. Successivement refuge, comptoir commerçant et lieu d'habitation, la ville a connu un bon nombre d'occupations : grecque, romaine, prise par les troupes de Simon de Monfort, gérance par l'évêque d'Agde, jusqu'à la Révolution française.

Longtemps cantonnée à l'agriculture et à la pêche, l'économie mézoise se rouvre aux environs du VIème siècle au commerce maritime.

Elle constitue aujourd'hui la bourgade la plus ancienne du bassin de Thau.

Quite as Agde, Meze was established by the Phocaean in the VIth century avenue. J.-C.. Successively refuge, trading counter and place of house, the city knew a good many of occupations : Greek, Roman, taken by the troops of Simon de Monfort, management by the bishop of Agde, until the French Revolution.

For a long time quartered in the agriculture and in the fishing, the mézoise economy reopens in the neighborhood of the VIth century in the maritime business.

It constitutes the most ancient village of the pond of Thau today.
